Schedule Note: The morning and evening classes cover the same material. Please attend only one session.

Bring your projects to the next level by learning how to select and utilize hand tools.  Whether you are interested in using hand tools to support your work with power tools or you are interested in using traditional joinery and assembly methods to create your next project, this class will lay the groundwork for a great tool collection. During this two-hour class, you will learn how to select, purchase, and choose the correct tools for any collection. Pair this knowledge with good techniques to perfect your craft. There will be plenty of time for Q&A, as well as hands-on demonstrations and examples of recommended tools.

 

Topics Covered

  • Measuring and marking tools (squares, marking knives, marking gauges)
  • Hand saws (crosscut, rip, dovetail, coping, and Japanese saws)
  • Chisels and gouges (types, sizes, and applications)
  • Hand planes (block planes, jack planes, smoothing planes, router planes)
  • Shaping tools (rasps, files, spokeshaves)
  • Sharpening systems and techniques
