$20

In partnership with Missoula Public Health, Home ReSource provides year-round household chemical collection, reuse, and disposal services for the Missoula community.

By offering ongoing disposal options for household hazardous waste, we help keep harmful materials out of Missoula’s groundwater and landfill.

Before you sign up, here are a few things to know:
This program is for household materials only – we’re not able to accept waste from businesses or schools. Drop-offs are limited to 10 gallons per visit.

Take a look at the Accepted Materials Guide before scheduling  and review this guide to ensure safe preparation and transportation. The $20 fee covers up to 10 gallons and is non-refundable. If this fee is a barrier, please email hcd@homeresource.org before filling out this form—we’re happy to work with you.

What is Household Chemical Waste?

Some everyday products around your home can be dangerous to you and the environment if they’re thrown away like regular trash. Items like oil-based paint, aerosol cans, cleaning products, and weed killers can catch fire, leak, or harm people, pets, and our water. These items are household chemical waste, and they need a little extra care when it’s time to get rid of them.

Common household chemical waste includes:

  • Flammables, combustibles, and solvents
    Propane canisters are accepted.
  •  Automotive fluids (gasoline, diesel fluid, brake fluid, and similar products)
  • New or used oil is not accepted.
  • Oil-based wood stains, mineral spirits, and related products
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Mercury-containing products (thermometers, thermostats, and fluorescent lights)
  • Acids, including muriatic acid for pools or fish tanks
  • Strong cleaners or drain openers, including lye or sodium hydroxide
