Evaluate your items
Opportunity for reuse? Give unused products to friends, family, or neighbors instead of disposing of them!
Be sure to read product labels. We prefer items to be in their original, labeled containers. If that’s not possible, please use a leak-proof container made of hard plastic or metal that is sealed and clearly labeled.
Preparing for your appointment
Only bring items listed on the Accepted Materials List and never mix different products together in the same container.
Check that all containers are in good condition, with lids tightly sealed and no leaks. (For the safety of our staff, we may refuse unlabeled or leaking items.)
Please stay within the 10 gallon limits
Still feeling unsure? Feel free to contact us at hcd@homeresource.org or fill out the Material Inquiry Form!
Tips for transporting chemicals to the appointment
- Secure products so they will not tip over or leak if you must make sudden stops or turns.
- If possible, place products into plastic totes to avoid spills.
- Keep unlike products separate. For example, do not transport bleach in the same tote as acids, pesticides, or flammables.
- For added safety, keep all materials out of the passenger area of your vehicle.
Upon Arrival
- Arrive at your scheduled appointment time. If you’re paying by cash or check, please stop at Home ReSource first to pay and bring your receipt with you to your appointment.
- Follow signage to the Household Chemical Disposal facility
- Turn off engine and eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, vaping, etc.)
- Staff will review your chemicals and handle unloading of materials.
In some cases, appointments may need to be cancelled or rescheduled due to staffing shortages, facility capacity, extreme weather, or other conditions. If that happens, we will contact you directly.
