Intro to the Woodshop: Edge-Grain Cutting Boards

In this classic course, learn how to safely plan, layout, and execute a basic woodworking project in the Home ReSource woodshop. Select & identify pieces from reclaimed and new hardwood, then design, build, and finish a beautiful edge-grained cutting board. Participants will train on the miter saw, jointer, planer, router table, and table saw to complete this project. Cutting board may be built to any size up to  20” long x 15” wide x 1.5” thick. Register starting on March 30.

Session 1: Tool & safety training; introduction to selecting hardwoods for cutting boards; process reclaimed wood

Session 2: Mill material; begin glue-ups (This may be a partial session)

Session 3: Flattening; sanding; add edge details  (This may be a partial session)

Session 4: Final sand; apply food-safe mineral oil finish

Dates: Wednesday, May 13, Thursday, May 14, Wednesday, May 20, Thursday, May 21 (4 sessions)

Time: 5 pm – 8 pm

Location: Home ReSource, 1515 Wyoming St

Cost: $195. A $5 discount is available if you register more than 7 days before the class.
