DESCRIPTION:This skill-focused course will teach essential shop techniques\, procedures\, and joinery methods while guiding you through the creation of an elegant hardwood box with a sliding lid. You’ll learn how to prepare materials to be truly flat and square\, a foundational skill for any woodworking project. From there\, you’ll build upon those skills to set up\, cut\, and join perfect box mitered corners. Add strength and elegance to your miters by incorporating contrasting splines\, which can be paired with matching inlays for a refined finish. \nAdvance your table saw skills by learning how to set up and cut dados and rabbets—critical techniques for creating the lid and bottom of your box. Perfectly shape each piece using a router\, router table\, and various hand tools. Finish your project with a traditional oil\, urethane\, and wax finish to ensure it lasts a lifetime. By the end of the course\, you’ll leave with a solid understanding of how to use the table saw\, miter saw\, planer\, and jointer\, as well as how these tools can be applied to future woodworking projects. Registration for this course opens March 30th. \nSkills taught: Shop safety\, planing\, jointing\, bookmatching / grain match\, splines\, cutting\, shaping\, shop jigs. multipiece glue-ups. This project is suitable for all skill levels. Join us for our monthly Fixit Clinic to make what was once was broken into something new! \nA Fixit Clinic is an event where community members can bring their worn\, broken\, or malfunctioning items for help learning to repair them. Volunteer Fixit Coaches from our community help repair those items for free by sharing their knowledge\, skills\, and willingness to help attendees connect to resources to repair their broken stuff. \nClinics are often in the Home ReSource Community Room\, and generally take place on Saturdays. DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Missoula Public Health\, Home ReSource provides year-round household chemical collection\, reuse\, and disposal services for the Missoula community. \nBy offering ongoing disposal options for household hazardous waste\, we help keep harmful materials out of Missoula’s groundwater and landfill. \nBefore you sign up\, here are a few things to know:\nThis program is for household materials only – we’re not able to accept waste from businesses or schools. Drop-offs are limited to 10 gallons per visit. \nTake a look at the Accepted Materials Guide before scheduling  and review this guide to ensure safe preparation and transportation. The $20 fee covers up to 10 gallons and is non-refundable. If this fee is a barrier\, please email hcd@homeresource.org before filling out this form—we’re happy to work with you. \n\nWhat is Household Chemical Waste?\nSome everyday products around your home can be dangerous to you and the environment if they’re thrown away like regular trash. Items like oil-based paint\, aerosol cans\, cleaning products\, and weed killers can catch fire\, leak\, or harm people\, pets\, and our water. These items are household chemical waste\, and they need a little extra care when it’s time to get rid of them. \nCommon household chemical waste includes: \n\nFlammables\, combustibles\, and solventsPropane canisters are accepted.\n Automotive fluids (gasoline\, diesel fluid\, brake fluid\, and similar products)\nNew or used oil is not accepted.\nOil-based wood stains\, mineral spirits\, and related products\nPesticides and herbicides\nMercury-containing products (thermometers\, thermostats\, and fluorescent lights)\nAcids\, including muriatic acid for pools or fish tanks\nStrong cleaners or drain openers\, including lye or sodium hydroxide\n\nClick here to schedule an appointment.
