Silver
Park Bench Shelters Project
The
Project
The Timber Framers Guild has agreed to sponsor a workshop in Missoula
demonstrating the centuries-old craft of timber framing. In the course
of five days, the Guild will teach timber framing techniques while
building two Shelters which, along with a third timber shelter, will
then be installed along the riverfront trail at Silver Park. The three
unique bench designs were selected through a nationwide design competition
held in 2007.
The
Timber Framers Guild will offer this five day workshop to registered
participants, and the public is invited to visit Ogren Park during the
workshop to watch and learn while the Shelters are under construction.
The
Partnership
The Silver Park Bench Shelter Project draws on Missoula’s time-honored
tradition of forming partnerships to accomplish good things for the community.
- The Timber Framers Guild has
taught dozens of workshops all over the country to strengthen and
promote the timber framing craft. The Guild was the primary sponsor
of the Design Competition for the Shelter designs.
- The International Log Builders Association was
a co-sponsor of the design competition.
- Home Resource, Missoula’s
building materials re-use center, serves as the Project fiscal sponsor
and is a driving force behind the Project in recognition of the beneficial
re-use of building materials.
- The City of Missoula Redevelopment Agency purchased
the salvage lumber and worked with the Missoula
Parks Department to build the new addition to the Ron MacDonald
Riverfront Trail System.
- Many Missoula businesses and individuals have
contributed to complete this wonderful community Project.
